Cupcake Of D’ Week = Steamed Cake (蒸糕)

March 26, 2009
I was telling Agnes that i cant steam a nice good steam cake.

Cos i failed when i try to steam a big whole cake last 2 weeks , it turn out hard and “ugly”.

But i didn’t give up !! Cos i know i can do it !! 😛

And i love steam cake, it’s make me recall back when i

was lil kid, my grandma used to steam egg cake for me to eat .

Now is my turn to steam egg cake for my grandma .

Instead of steaming a big whole cake, i try to steam it in a small portion like Cupcake.

My first steam egg cake with black sesame

Ingredient :

120g cake flour

2 tsp baking powder

1 large egg

60g caster sugar

1/8 tsp salt

80ml milk

3 tbp olive oil

10g black & white sesame

1) Stir-fried the sesame in a wok until fragrant. Remove from wok and leave to cool.

2) Whisk the egg, sugar and salt in a large bowl until slightly foamy.

3) Add in milk, stir the mixture until combine, follow by olive oil.

4) Sift the flour and baking powder onto the mixture.

Stir until the flour is fully combined with the mixture. Finally, add in the sesame.

5) Pour the mixture into muffin cups.

6) Steam the cakes for 15-20 minutes. Serve.

( made 5 medium cupcake)

I find that this is also a versatile recipe;

a variety of ingredients can be added as the taste of the cake is mild.

& is very suitable for old folk people, cos is not sweet !!

My 2nd steam egg cake with raisin
Ingredient :

2 Eggs

100g sugar

some raisin

150g Self-raising Flour

1/8 tsp Baking Soda

75g oil ( any flavorless oil)

1) Sift together self-raising flour and baking soda, set aside

2) In a mixing bowl, whisk together eggs and sugar still ribbon stage or formy

3) Mix in raisin, beat till combine

4) Gently fold in flour mixture and oil

5) Pour batter into muffin cups, steam over high heat for 15 mins or until inserted skewer comes out clean.

( made 5 large cupcake)

U can either add in banana , i m out of banana, that why i add in raisin. It’s nice .

This round i have a lil helper …. help me to put in raisin 🙂

But my boy still doesn’t like to eat cake much, he just wanna to eat the raisin only

…. But he is having fun helping me !!

Overall i m happy with the result . It’s taste good !!

Pregnancy Update : 17, 18 ,19 & 20 Weeks

March 24, 2009

Pregnancy Weeks 17 : Craving

I do have craving during my 2nd pregnancy , especially Noodle, cakes & spicy food. Is almost the same as my 1st pregnancy . But 1st pregnancy i don’t crave for sweet cake .

Pregnancy Weeks 18 : What do the Sibling(brother) think ?

We start to tell Jeremy that he is going to be a brother/kor kor soon … I guess by now he slowly can understand it ! On and off he wanna to listen to my tummy and see what is the baby doing …. sometime he give me a real funny answer …. “got chu chu train” ” got dinosaur sound “ properly he is trying to tell me that the baby is praying inside of mummy tummy .

During bedtime, either we read book together or i will draw some simple drawing to him . Usually he will ask me to draw elephant , horse or dinosaur . After the simple sketch was done, he will ask me to draw he himself riding the elephant , behind with papa and mummy will stand beside the elephant. Recently he will ask me ” 画弟弟阿, 小小个” ( draw didi, a very small didi) . I love it when he can understand about sibling and i hope he will love and share things with his coming lil brothers . How nice !! A family of Four !!

Jeremy’s elephant ride with daddy, mummy and lil brother.

( a very fast and simple sketch)

Pregnancy Weeks 19 : Baby Movement .

My gynea told me , properly i can feel baby movement at weeks 16 with this 2nd baby, but i wait and wait ….NO sign of movement for the 4th months. So at the Weeks of 19 , i able to feel the baby movement , not strong, something like “butterfly” move . soft and light .

I remember when i was pregnant with Jeremy, the first movement was kind a weired for me, and abit of “geli” to me too . It’s always quiet during the day. But the moment you lie down to sleep, the baby start to move, swimming inside u . But you get used to it. It becomes normal. You learn to expect it. And love it later . By the time you don’t feel the baby movement, you start to get worry !!

Pregnancy Weeks 20 : Back pain during night sleep

I do my usual check-up every month .Everything went WELL (mummy and baby) yesterday for my check-up, i lost 1.5kg last month, this month i gain 2kg back .I have slight back and butt pain, it usually happen during my night sleep, i cant really sleep straight and flat, i have to sleep side way . Other then this, i m fine. baby is doing good too. no sign of any DS or anything “wrong” . Thank GOD !!

This is my daily supplement .

Obimin Plus with DHA + EFA, 2 tablets Calcium and Soya base drink .

I don’t like soya or milk at all, but i force myself to take in 1 cup/day.

Last, doctor again confirm the baby is 101% BOY @ Weeks 20 .

Colour Blindness

March 20, 2009

The words ‘colour blindness’ are misleading. People who cannot see all colours are not ‘blind’ – they can see things as clearly as people who are not ‘colour blind’. Colour blindness means that a person cannot ‘see’ some colours, or sees them differently from other people. Very few people who are colour blind are ‘blind’ to all colours. The usual colours which they see differently are greens, yellows, oranges and reds.

I wrote this post , becos i was worry Jeremy was a Colour Blind kid . Why i say this ??
  • Mainly because my Brothers was Colour Blind, My brother cannot figure out RED and GREEN, he see this 2 colour in different way .( sometime i wander how he pass his exam in UNI ?? hahaha… my brother is an electrical and mechanical student..k )
  1. Red-green colour blindness is usually inherited, and occurs in about 8% of males and only about 0.4% of females. This is because of the way the genes for the different cone cells are carried on the chromosomes. The genes that lead to red-green colour blindness are on the X chromosome [males have only one of these and females have two].
  2. If a mother ‘carries’ the gene for red-green colour blindness (one normal and one altered gene) she will not have a colour vision problem. About 50% of the sons of women who are carriers will be colour blind (in any family it may not be 50% because the distribution of the genes is random).
  3. A daughter will not normally be red-green colour blind unless her mother is a carrier and her father is colour-blind, but about 50% of daughters of women who are carriers will also carry the gene.
  • I might be a carrier for Colour Blindness , if my sibling do have this Colour Blind . Chances was high for my boys to have colour blind . Especially BOY . Chances for girl is low.
  • I been teaching Jeremy for quite some time about colour .. But he pick up very very slow .People said Jeremy is still too young to understand colour !! Ok … Maybe . BUT few of my fren’s kids already know colour before they turn 3 . I m not trying to compare each kid … i just get “example” of the kid who know colour at age 3 and even younger .
Doctor said colour blind is not a very serious illness . But for me , It can be worth knowing if a child is colour blind because he may have difficulty at school, especially in the early years when many activities use colours, such as drawing and sorting blocks. Using a computer can be a problem too for someone who is colour blind. In future this can affect whether the person will be able to do certain jobs, or be able to get certain types of driving licenses. How sad if a kids have problem with colour ??

When children learn colour ??

  • All of the cells and nerve pathways in the eye and the brain are present from birth, and very young children can see the difference between colours if they are not colour blind. They do not see colours very well at first but soon begin to like colours, especially bright colours.
  • However children under about 4 years may not understand that the ‘green’ of a ball, for example, is the same colour as the ‘green’ of grass.
  • The child needs more understanding of things like colours, shapes and sizes to ‘see’ that different things can be the same colour.
  • Younger children may be able to say that the ball is green, but not able to say that grass is also green (they know that it doesn’t look anything like the ball, and are confused when we want them to say the same describing word!).
  • Many children are able to recognise and name colours by the time they are 4.

There are many sites on the Internet which have some colour vision checking charts . I try to print out some of the checking charts by using objects, cos Jeremy can understand objects . I m glad … that Jeremy able to name the shape like STAR, SQUARE, CIRCLE and Tractor (last image) clearly to me, without any help from us . Is that means he is colour blind free ?? I cant 100% be sure about this …. at this moment, he only know RED, BLACK, ORANGE & YELLOW. But once a while still mess up with red and orange colour .The best is get the children check face to face when the time is right and the age is right .

I got the above info from one of the article in Internet , and i think is very useful and calm me down after i read this . Properly i need to give Jeremy sometime to understand COLOUR.

The Soup Of The Day

March 18, 2009
My appetite still haven fully come back yet.

I still cant take in one bowl of rice … half is still ok .
I didn’t cook during weekdays . I will drop by my in law house for dinner.

Yah…i know i m very lucky , my MIL is a good cook !!

I only cook during weekend … if i have the mood …

But i m lazy … i usually cook very simple dish .

Like soup, noodles, 1 dish vege, fried rice .

Cos only 2 adult and 1 lil boy .

Below was some soups and dish i cook over the past weekends.
Sweet corn + carrot + onion + tomato soup + Chicken bone/meat.

Soup will surly help me , to ease my hunger ,

since i cant take in heavy food .
Another simple soup

This soup especially for my hubby who study late & sleep late.

Chicken Essence soup

材料:

1. 鸡精两罐 ( 2 bottle of Chicken Essence)

2. 2 chicken drumstick ( better take off the skin)

3. 枸子一把 ( Some kai-chi)

4. 红枣一把 ( Some red date with seed)

5. 盐适量 ( salt)

6. 两罐 热水 ( 2 to 3 bottles of hot water – use chicken essence bottle)

* can add in 姜片 (ginger) & 党参 (tong-sum) , i didn’t add in, cos i don’t have during that time.

I put everything in slow cooker and cook for few hours.

If u don’t wan to put in slow cooker for soup, u can steam it.

全部倒下去,蒸 (steam) 至鸡熟即可, and add in less water .

( so, if u have many extra chicken essence, this is a nice & simple recipe)

Fried Noodles

Noodles for 3 of us .. since i m craving for noodles,

Jeremy love noodle … so noodles is the best choice to cook .

I m lucky to have a hubby which is not a picky eater.

He eat whatever i cook, nice or bad … he will “sapu all” 🙂

Ikan bilis sambal

Just for me and daddy.

I guess my cooking mood is back after 4-5 months of morning sickness 🙂

Jeremy @ 29 Months

March 16, 2009
My Boy turn 29 months on 17th .

I realize that he is growing into a lil man. He able to understand what we trying to say, what we not allow him to do. Even sometime a eyesight from us …. he know what it means (angry, sad, happy or “go”). It’s just a matter he wanna to follow or obey. Mostly he obey but very fast he goes back to his “naughty” behavior . Here are some examples :

  • He will stops “naughty” behavior when you tell him to, but he soon goes back to it as though he doesn’t care what you want.
  • He may seem selfish, not sharing. He wants things others are using .Disagreements and frustrations are common.
  • He interrupts others and cannot stay long with one activity if others are not doing it.
  • He likes stories and imitates others… even from the TV show .
  • He may seem willful and disobedient and unable to justify “naughty” behavior. “Good” means “satisfying” to him; he still doesn’t understand rules much .

We do introduce “rules” to him .. but keep it very simple . What is right and wrong, which place can play and which cant . Be firm and consistent (usually daddy the one who is furious & firm) . Sometime after all the rules .. we still try to make him feel good , so easily he will obey and listen . He is the type of child that accept soft then hard approach “.吃软不吃硬” ….

But overall … he is doing “okay” at the moment with the “rules” we apply , sometime good and sometime bad. But we do have alot of fun with him and having him with u will never get u bored . He is fun, active , a lil chatterbox, good in kisses too . Talk about kisses.. recently he apply animal in all his kisses…. Elephant Kiss or hippo kiss( hold u tight and kiss u strong and big), Chicken kiss ( kiss u many many time like chicken) Dinosaur Kiss ( Kiss u very strong with the dinosaur sound) . Monkey Kiss ( kiss with ugh-ugh sound) … above all the kiss… mummy love the Sweet sweet kiss ( kiss u very gently with a loving smile) . hahhaha.. HE is such a funny & cute boy ..Of cos beside all the “naughty” behavior !!

& everyone love him “beary” much too …
